What is Reconciliation Action Plans?

A Reconciliation Action Plan is a strategic plan that allows your organisation to improve relationships, show respect and increase opportunities.  It should include timelines and targets and each action should be adopted through the whole organisation.  The RAP will then have the best chance of success if each action, timeline, responsibility and deliverable is as specific as possible.  It is about engaging your organisation.  Good relationships and mutual respect equal sustainable opportunities.  This is the main reason for developing a RAP program within your organisation. Need to know what the organisation’s vision for Reconciliation is?

An organisation must have clear Governance structures in place to support Reconciliation. The Board of Directors need to set clear goals and objectives for your action plan. The Board of Directors need to know the key priorities that will be covered in the action plan. Along with this other areas must include the key values are around relationships, respect and opportunities. Have an understanding of how to build capacity through the RAP process.. Have measurable and realistic targets. The RAP must be used from the Top down. It is about implementing good policies and programs within the organisation.
